Teacher Innovation Grants
The CMS Foundation established the Teacher Innovation Fund in 2014 through a $250,000 donation by the Charlotte Hornets Foundation, Lowe’s and Fox Sports Southeast. Through grants awarded to CMS teachers, the Teacher Innovation Fund supports the implementation of innovative strategies to educate and prepare every student to graduate college- and career-ready.

Hornets Teacher Innovation Grants
The Hornets Teacher Innovation Grants were the first grants established through the Teacher Innovation Fund. Since the program’s inception in 2014, nearly $185,000 have been awarded by the Charlotte Hornets Foundation and Fox Sports Southeast to fund teacher-led projects in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), literacy, arts and culture, health and fitness and other areas. CMS teachers and school support staff may apply for grants up to $5,000. In addition to receiving funding for their projects, grant recipients are also recognized on court at a Charlotte Hornets basketball game. These grants are awarded twice each school year (fall and spring).
The final cycle of the Hornets Teacher Innovation Grant program begins September 11. The application deadline is Friday, October 20. CMS teachers and staff can download the application here.
